But as a burned, scientifically-concocted breakfast sits on the table for her little family (really, the only things properly edible are the fruits in the bowl and the juice in the pitcher), today's post has nothing to do with food. In fact, it's all about treatment. And this subject is one Flora is growing to feel very strongly about.]

Good morning, everyone! I hope you're well. I apologize for being a bother, but I've got a few concerns regarding this world, actually. I know everyone's taken up the habit of battling their pokémon and I understand they're quite useful when it comes to defense against wild encounters, but... [She pauses, takes a deep breath, and:]

I truly don't think it's fair to force these little animals to fight! In fact, I think it's cruel. Someone I had spoken to earlier had suspected that we're to train them for war, and that's not right at all. Why should we make them fight for us, especially in a war with no clear meaning? They're just little animals, they shouldn't be forced to battle.

[That was hard. She looks genuinely bothered by this! But after a calm breath, she smiles back at the gear.] Instead, can't we just love and care for them? They're all quite cute. Even the dinosaurs.

Thank you for listening. I hope you all have a good day!

[And with that, she shuts off the gear. She feels better about it, in any case. But she'll stay in the kitchen a little while longer.

Meanwhile, her Gible is currently at the table, trying to steal one of the 'pancakes' she made. Too bad his stubby arms can't reach. But at least, if anyone wants to pretend they've eaten her abominable breakfast, her Gible is willing to help.]

They do? [Weeeeeird.] Do yours... like to battle?

Most of 'em! A few of them do like fighting, but they're not violent. They're just active, and it's fun for them.

So... for yours that don't want to battle, you don't force them to? But... your other ones want to? [She frowns and tries to think about this one.]

Alright, so if it's not a war, that's good. But... how is fighting fun for them?

[Nope, never heard of 'em. She's too innocent to be in the know about the big bad meanies.]

For future safety... In case the wild ones attack you? But there are ways around that, aren't there?

[Flora freezes, gear in hand as she stares at the newcomer. She's rather surprised that anyone's just let themselves into their home, but as she mentions Luke, Flora figures it's just a friend.]

...I'm not. I assume you know him, seeing as you... forgot to knock before letting yourself in.

[Setting the gear closer, she steps forward. Part of her really wants to run and call for the professor, but... She's a brave girl! She can handle this on her own.]

But... is it really necessary to fight with them here? What's the point in the gym challenges? [If there's no war, that's good, but there's still a lot of fighting.]

[Professor, I've been making friends on my picture-phone! And I also made you breakfast, please eat up! Don't you like the spinach and boysenberry pancakes?]

A sport? But Professor, it's so dangerous!

So, no war... But... aren't there other ways of protection that aren't fighting?

It really does. It doesn't seem fair to the pokémon.

Active... It really does sound like a sport! Perhaps could have them involved in a different sport... like rugby!

[She screams at that and actually drops her gear. WHY WOULD YOU DO THAT TO HER.]

[Okay, so maybe it was a little too much. However, Crush doesn't seem remotely phased by it. In fact, he just lets out a soft grunt and sniffs Flare a little.]

But really, you've just got to learn to keep an open mind in these situations. It's not like fighting hasn't been made into a sport. Just look at boxing.

They do. It's a real pain, you know? They'd push themselves way too hard training if I didn't take them out and make sure they stay within their limits. Which means I don't get the sleep I need...

Unless you're telling to keep stay away from the wild. However, it's not always safe. That is why we train them.

But pokemon are supposed to be for battling! So it's gotta have some kind of ability!

You think you're going to protect yourself against a fire-breathing lizard without the aid of something with equal power? [ And that's just the smaller end of the spectrum. ] I'd like to hear your recommendations on the other types of protection.

Pokemon can't grow if they don't gain the experience that fighting gives them. I'm pretty sure they evolve for a reason, so why not help them grow?

[A ledian flies over to sit next to her trainer, obviously interested in what they're talking about.]

I'm still not really sure, but I think most pokemon would do something if they didn't want to fight. I think their standards are different than ours, so while I don't understand exactly that doesn't mean I won't support them with everything I have.

Like Lady here. [She glances at the Ledian fondly.] When I met her she was still a low level ledyba, and she was getting picked on by some wild grass type pokemon. Now she can stand up for herself.

You're right, she shouldn't, but.. Miu doesn't really listen.

[ sigh. ]

I think mine isn't much of a fighter! I don't know if that's bad to say, but I like her just fine as a pet.

They're not just for battling! Just like we're not. [Gosh you're a meanie!]

...It probably just doesn't want to battle. You shouldn't make it.

[She still looks a little petrified by that. But... coming down from her shock now.]

Boxing...? Is that really considered a sport?

A team sport in which young men pass a ball around and try to score goals. I've never played it myself, and it's a bit rough, but the men playing it always seemed to enjoy themselves.
