second ✿ video/action for the Layton house

[And on the screen pops the ever so lovable Flora, standing in the kitchen of her home. She really loves not having to live at the inn anymore--it gives her full reign in the kitchen. But as a burned, scientifically-concocted breakfast sits on the table for her little family (really, the only things properly edible are the fruits in the bowl and the juice in the pitcher), today's post has nothing to do with food. In fact, it's all about treatment. And this subject is one Flora is growing to feel very strongly about.]

Good morning, everyone! I hope you're well. I apologize for being a bother, but I've got a few concerns regarding this world, actually. I know everyone's taken up the habit of battling their pokémon and I understand they're quite useful when it comes to defense against wild encounters, but... [She pauses, takes a deep breath, and:]

I truly don't think it's fair to force these little animals to fight! In fact, I think it's cruel. Someone I had spoken to earlier had suspected that we're to train them for war, and that's not right at all. Why should we make them fight for us, especially in a war with no clear meaning? They're just little animals, they shouldn't be forced to battle.

[That was hard. She looks genuinely bothered by this! But after a calm breath, she smiles back at the gear.] Instead, can't we just love and care for them? They're all quite cute. Even the dinosaurs.

Thank you for listening. I hope you all have a good day!

[And with that, she shuts off the gear. She feels better about it, in any case. But she'll stay in the kitchen a little while longer.

Meanwhile, her Gible is currently at the table, trying to steal one of the 'pancakes' she made. Too bad his stubby arms can't reach. But at least, if anyone wants to pretend they've eaten her abominable breakfast, her Gible is willing to help.

[Wow, hello adorable girl on the screen. Winry listens to every word you say. ...Wait. What? War?]

...I don't think we're training them for a war. This place is nothing like the world where I came from and there have been wars in our world's history.

[Clive hears her little speech as he's coming down for breakfast. Flora, bb...]

Flora, my dear, I'm quite certain there's going to be no war. And most Pokémon actually enjoy battling; it's a way for them to truly connect with their trainers.

I think you have a point, but I also think we're not about to send our Pokemon to something extreme like a war. [And even if they do, they're not going alone. Takeru will be there for them every step of the way just like how he is with Patamon and they're battles against darkness.]

Forcing them to fight is wrong. I always try and avoid wild Pokémon if I hear them getting close. Some of them really like to fight, though. Spearow's always going after whatever other Pokémon he sees.

Everyone needs to take care of animals and plants, even if they aren't ones you like.

[Cute? Say that to the big ol' Charizard who just rolled his eyes. The Hydreigon next to him lets out a soft little moan and tilts his middle head. Then there's a Servine who hisses, practicing some fighting moves in utmost defiance!

Riku, at least, manages to keep his composure, but he doesn't look particularly amused.]

It's not forcing them if they actually like to battle. Besides, you're questioning the ethics of a world that sees Pokémon battles as a sport and a major part of its culture.

I don't make mine fight at all if they don't want to. I don't need the badges, after all, and my Pokémon are mostly really sweet and not violent at all.

[The post should be about food and the best ways to make it look as unappealing as possible. He's sorely tempted to give her a hint or two on how to cook edible meals...

Oh, she wants to talk pokérights. That's something he could stand behind, but Rin's leaning more towards his pokémon's opinions on the matter rather than his own. The people he's met here have told him a lot.]

I think we can do both. ...It took a while for me to realize that, but we can care for them and let them fight if they want to. Poochy doesn't like battling, so I always make sure she has something else to do. [Poochy, his Poochyena, barks from the top of Rin's head.]

I don't think we're training for war or nothin'.

[Probably. She's been getting the impression that she's not entirely in the loop with the Rocket organization.]

But th' Pokemon really enjoy it! Fightin's how they have fun!

I never use them for war. Instead, I trained them for future safety. For them and for myself. Although, I do have to agree with you since I'm seeking for peace.

[[Emmy actually managed to force herself out of bed (it took....far far too long, but the excited Fighting Pokemon helped....) to train this morning, before breakfast, and after a full-on one hour session she's decided she is never bloody well doing that again. She's exhausted, hungry, and would like nothing better than a strong cup of tea and some sleep.

Luke's house is closer than her apartment, and he had mentioned she could stay there whenever she wanted, so she opens the door and yawns, making her way into the kitchen when she hears someone working in it.]]

I don't know anyone who's forcing their pokemon to fight, and if they were I know others would stop them. Pokemon are our partners, that means we work with them, doesn't it?

[Rinoa's not been very fond of war, but she's spent enough time with SeeD to learn a few things by now.]

I've never liked fighting before either, but sometimes it's necessary. In those situations, it's best to make sure you're ready to deal with the consequences.

[However]

I don't think I know anyone who's training for a war. I'm just helping my pokemon get stronger so we can challenge the gym leaders, that's all.

[ ...Flora, honey, dear, who put that idea of a war into your head and-- what is this burning smell? oh jfc, what is this abomination sitting on the table. Layton will just get his cup of tea and sit down, not even daring to touch that "breakfast". His Ninetales sits beside him and looks at it with the biggest (bah) face that a fox can ever have. Oh god, Layton should really try to speak to Flora about attending the cooking classes at his school. ]

From my understanding, battles are a type of sport here. Most, but certainly not all, Pokemon seem to enjoy competition and to fight with others.

Ah, but no one is training them for war. There hasn't been any recorded war here. The concept is most likely one that's foreign.

People keep pokemon for protection. There are wild pokemon that attack others frequently, or, sometimes invade the town as precedent dictates. In times like these, human and pokemon train together so they can protect and fend off threats together. Fighting is a perfectly appropriate thing for a pokemon to do. [ If they don't wish to do so then they violate the laws of nature and, to be honest, they shouldn't be a person's pokemon then. blah blah blah natural selection blah blah blah homunculi are the fittest. A brief summary of what would otherwise be tl;dr introspection. ]

I agree with this completely. I've tried to avoid fighting as much as I can, but sometimes in the grass they just pop out and attack first...

I refuse to fight other trainers though. It seems wrong.
